Renault Grand Scenic (2007)
by Chris Bishop,reviewed December 2007
People movers don't tend to win many popularity contests.
They are quite often a grudge buy, seen as the only way to cope with transporting a big brood.
The French aren’t helping matters with this supposed seven-seater.
Grand Scenic’s puny 2.0-litre engine and indecisive automatic gearbox are a terrible combination. This heavy car is slow, uncertain and, at times, horribly harsh.
There is some handling ability however vague steering and tallness remind of its limits.
Grand rides firmly, if a little too sharply at low speeds, and pulls up smartly.
Inside is a letdown. The seats are flat, there’s little third row legroom until second-row legspace is sacrificed and the ergonomics, especially its stubby stalks, will divide opinion.
Practicality is a highlight although using multiple child restraints can highlight some packaging shortfalls.
Pros include equipment levels and safety gear while Renault’s build quality is improving.
