Peugeot 508 Touring HDi Allure (2012)

THE 508 ALLURE sedan rated well enough to be a class finalist in Australia’s Best Cars testing at the end of 2011.
The Touring version retains handsome body styling (our test car drew a number of compliments) and adds the versatility of a good-sized load area thanks to its wagon body. A split-fold rear seat, ski-port, and a nice low cargo bay load lip aid practicality.

There’s only one specification, the well-equipped Allure, though buyers can opt for a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol or the 2.0-litre HDi turbo-diesel (as tested).

It can feel a little tardy due to turbo-lag when looking for a quick get away from a standing start, such as entering flowing traffic. Once underway though, response is more purposeful and the standard six-speed auto offers smooth shifts and willing kick-downs.

Official fuel consumption figures are respectable too. Consistently weighted, accurate steering; decent grip levels; lively cornering skills; plus effective brakes, add up to polished road manners.

Ride, even on the optional 18” wheels and tyres fitted to our test car, is firm but still composed and comfortable.

Comfortable front seats that include cushion tilt and four-way lumbar adjustment, plus good occupant space, are other likeable traits.

The parallel parking space measurement system checks and advises the driver if there is sufficient space and the degree of difficulty of the manoeuvre.
